I think we need more posts about cocktails

Today I am a bit.... fuzzzzy. And have been thinking of Negronis since 11am. And in my hangover Monday daze I have nothing interesting to say about cocktails except that we should post more about them, and I'm very excited for an upcoming NYC visit from Smas where there will certainly be drinking, of cocktails, and other things.

*This is the negroni I'm dreaming of, at Via Carota. However, I stole the photo from someone else's Instagram of same venue. I don't have perfectly manicured fingernails, ever (oil paints eat manicures) and it being someone else's photo of a drink I did not make myself, we can label this post under Smas's criteria Not Food Porn.

I Heart Andy!

This post is dedicated to the infinite wisdom of Andy Dwyer. We can all learn a little something from Andy.

Anniversary Snack

Yesterday was Daily Snack Anniversary Day - both of us snackers got married on July 4 so I'm sharing a photo* of my anniversary breakfast yesterday (courtesy of Mr. Smas). Yes, it was as delicious and intoxicating as it looked. No, Baby Smas (whose grimy hand is just visible in the background) did not partake of the delicious cava mimosa (other than a tiny sip which she proclaimed "sour").

Noms.

*OK, I did read the last post congratulating MS and myself on not posting self-made food porn... this doesn't count because I didn't make it. Also, it's a very poorly composed photo which shows just how little effort I went into taking it. See the hair band? And the plastic Frozen cup? The random ziplock bag? 0% effort. I think I was asleep when this photo was taken. So, not food porn. Really. Am I over-defending this? I think I probably should just let it go. If I hadn't said anything, no one would have even noticed, right? I'll just stop typing now. This is not the porn you're looking for. Move along. The end.

You can braise short ribs and put them on top of fresh made pasta

and it's delicious and I learned this at Cook St. Helena near Sonoma, California, during a dreamy sister birthday weekend. On top of this braised beef and fresh pasta were delicious fried sage leaves which reminded me of one extraordinary egg-hash breakfast cooked by (one of two Daily Snack readers) Gabe Greenberg. Both experiences reminded me that fried sage leaves on top of things is a very good idea.

Other delicious California sites visited include: Cline Cellars, in which a lovely retired volunteer named Don gave us 10 wine tastings instead of the maximum of 5, and commented at one point: "This Pinot satisfies almost all the sensory taste buds. Except for that new one, Ooh-Mami"

Also the headquarters of my favorite beer of all time, Lagunitas, and the extraordinary The Marshall Store in Point Reyes, where we split 26 oysters between two of us.

Here's a shot snapped by my sister Kathy of a lovely man eating the same lovely braised beef pasta dish and he looks like he might do this daily and it seems he has a very lovely life.

OH and PS: I'm going to congratulate myself and fellow blogger Smas. Why? Because while this blog has been sporadic at best for seven years now, we have NEVER posted 'food porn' photos of all the amazing food we cook in our homes, and given the over saturation of waxing poetically to carefully poised shots of stuff on plates in people's homes that I find ever so boring, I think this is a cool achievement. Cheers to us.

And We're Back...

We have had a long hiatus from snack blog. Hearts were broken, babies were born, houses and studios moved, jobs lost and gained, blah blah blah... We remain BFFs and have never lost interest in snacking, beer and hamburgers.

And we have reignited the snack blog! Most likely to be the sole readers and commenters once again. Should we maintain this retro look? I think so.

Though our food interests have changed maybe a little, as evidenced in this joke I made up recently (I'm very excited to combine a snack post + the aforementioned category known as 'The Daily Joke.'

Someone asked me on February 13, "Do you have plans for Valentine's Day?"

And all at once it struck me as the stupidest question. So I said, "Oh, I dunno. Probably eating cold cereal and watching porn."

(I don't know this person very well, so they just stared at me, maybe a little freaked out). So I said, "JUST KIDDING! I don't eat cold cereal, it's loaded with sugar...."

He didn't laugh but I found myself very hilarious.
